Johann Michael Sattler
(28 September 1786, Herzogenburg, Lower Austria - 28 September 1847, Mattsee, Salzburg) was an Austrian portrait and landscape painter, best known for his large-scale panoramas. Sattler attended the Vienna Academy beginning in 1804 under the tutelage of Hubert Maurer. In 1819 Sattler moved to Salzburg, where in 1824 he began to paint a 360-degree panorama of the city as seen from the top of Salzburg's castle. The massive work covered 125 square metres and was first exhibited in 1829. Salzburg made him an honorary resident. Stattler toured across Europe with the painting for ten years, writing about his return in 1838, "with 30 tons and crossing approximately 30,000 kilometres of land and water, a feat no one had ever done before me and one which would be difficult to repeat in the future." Satler's son, the artist Hubert Sattler, donated the work to the city in 1870. The painting is now on display at the Salzburg Museum in a specially designed area called the Panorama Museum.
William Cruikshank
William Cruikshank (December 25, 1848, Broughty Ferry, Scotland e May 19, 1922, Kansas City, Missouri) was a British painter and the grand-nephew of George Cruikshank. He studied art at the Royal Scottish Academy in Edinburgh, at the Royal Academy in London, and in Paris. His last studies were interrupted by the Franco-Prussian War. In 1871 he settled in Canada, opened a studio in Toronto and for twenty-five years was an instructor in the Central Ontario School of Art, later the Ontario College of Art. In 1894 he was elected a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts and acquired a considerable reputation as a portrait and figure painter, and as a painter of Canadian scenes. Oscar Bluemner
German-born American Painter, 1867-1938,was a German-born American Modernist painter. He was born in Hanover, Germany. He moved to Chicago in 1893 where he freelanced as a draftsman. He relocated to New York in 1901. In 1910 he met Alfred Stieglitz, who introduced him to the artistic innovations of the European and American avant-garde. Then in 1915 Stieglitz gave him a solo exhibition at his gallery, 291.
